Working in Sunshine
Sunshine is one of the west's older hubs, with Californian bungalows and post-war weatherboards sitting alongside newer double-storey builds that have gone up on subdivided blocks. The streets off Hampshire Road and around the Sunshine train station have smaller front yards, often a mix of couch and buffalo, while the blocks heading toward Dempster Park and the Kororoit Creek are wider with deeper back lawns. Many of the older homes have established hedges, typically photinia or pittosporum, that need two to three cuts a year to stay square. The nature strips along Sunbury Road and Harvester Road are wide and high-traffic, and they collect a lot of leaf litter from the street trees.
